Visitors can roam around one of Britain’s finest medieval castles and royal prison, and learn about the final days of Anne Boleyn at the Tower of London or, for the less bloodthirsty, visit the Queen’s London home, Buckingham Palace. And that’s not to mention world-renowned arts venues, galleries and museums, award-winning theatre and unrivalled shopping – all found within a few Tube stops of each other. x-Guoman Tower Hotel : The Tower is located on the north bank of the River Thames alongside Tower Bridge and the Tower of London. There are very British pursuits like the Oxford and Cambridge boat race, changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace and an impressive collection of traditional English pubs. From a bloody, squalid history to the vanguard of fashion in the Swinging 1960s to the buzzing metropolis it is today, London has something for everyone. Since then it’s evolved into one of the greatest cities on earth. Overall you could pay a lot more and get a lot less in the City and deny yourself the spectacular views.The UK's capital was founded by the Romans shortly after they invaded in 43AD. Catherine's Dock.views a bit disappointing but in any other place you'd see reviews call them 'charming' and 'picturesque' it's just another part of the area and it does have some super eating venues which you can pick from your bedroom! The check-in staff are efficient and pleasant, which must be a strain when the place is busy and they are hosting conferences as well as dealing with a constant stream of visitors. At £12 the buffet breakfast with its wide range of hot and cold choices is good value but if you're on a budget there are plenty of places nearby that are a lot cheaper - Wetherspoons is just across Tower Hill. Towels are not fluffy but neither do they rub you raw. The building is traditional mid 20thC and the exterior could really do with a make-over or at least a lick of paint, but the rooms are clean and well provisioned, although to nit-pick better biscuits would be welcome. Hotels in this part of London are not cheap because it's where tourism meets overnighting City workers, but given the proximity to all the attractions at this end of Town and the splendid views, The Tower is an ideal location. Next time, I would rather stay at the Bates Motel. The next morning, I had another slight disagreement with the shower, which for no apparent reason decided to change the temperature of the water to boiling, forcing me to jump out, pulling down the shower curtain with me as a result, with the shampoo still in my hair and eyes. It only took for me to turn on the air-conditioning (yes, some modern 20th century amenities have even made it to the Guoman), for little particles of (no doubt lead containing) paint to start their airborne floatation around the room and finally settle like dandruff in the worn-down carpet. The resulting thick layering of colourings was holding on for dear life and in many areas had given up the pretence of being stuck to the wall.

The staff were nice enough to calm me down, offer me a glass of water and listen to me ranting loudly. staring at the single bed in my $500 per night room, the stained carpets, dodgy shower curtain (yes, what hotel still does have shower curtains, really!), I went downstair to complain. After having spend 10 minutes in total shock. Staying at the Guoman last night brought back painful memories. We bought a house last year, that had not been decorated since the 70s.
